On Saturday, December 2nd, over 100 healthcare providers and their staff came out to the Regina McGinn Medical Education Center to partake in the 2017 Staten Island Primary Care Symposium, co-hosted by Staten Island University Hospital, the Office of the Staten Island Borough President, and Richmond University Medical Center. We started off the day with a breakfast and a keynote on Social Determinants of Health from Dr. Ram Raju, Senior Vice President and Community Health Investment Officer at Northwell Health, New York. Guests were then able to choose between three breakout panel sessions: Advance Care Planning, Behavioral Health Integration, and Health Information Technology. We reconvened after lunch to hear from Dr. Susan Beane, Vice President & Medical Director of Healthfirst who joined us for a session about Value Based Care. After a brief intermission, guests were able to choose a second breakout panel session between Diabetes Management, Avoiding Hospital Use through care Coordination, and Pediatric Wellness. It was a great day of learning, professional development, and networking. Attendees got to hear from leaders who are transforming healthcare across the region and from local providers who are driving change in our community.
