On Thursday, April 19, 2018 Dr. Patricia Bomba gave a presentation on integrating Medical Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (MOLST) into a community-wide approach to advance care planning. This event was during National Healthcare Decisions Day where every day of the third week of April is celebrated with a dedicated theme. The theme on Thursday was, “Spread the Word: A day to tell others that you’ve engaged in advance care planning and encourage them to do the same”. It’s important that we all understand the purpose of the MOLST and who it’s appropriate for. Dr. Bomba explains that MOLST is a set of medical orders and is not an advance directive. It’s for an individual with one or more chronic conditions of any age who wish to document their goals as it stands today.

Thank you Dr. Bomba and the Staten Island PPS palliative care team for helping spread the word! Find the MOLST form and more information here: https://www.health.ny.gov/professionals/patients/patient_rights/molst/
