Lead and Design Equity in SI Healthcare: Building Greater Equity in Healthcare Provision on Staten Island
The first of 7 sessions of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Initiative was held on Wednesday, September 12th, with leaders from 17 organizations in attendance.
The DEI program was created in collaboration with Community Resource Exchange (CRE) to give leaders the tools and strategic guidance needed to deepen their identity awareness and leadership capacities to advance diversity, inclusion, and equity within and beyond their organization. The initiative is a series of interactive sessions over four months, plus one-on-one coaching support, for directors and senior leadership of Staten Island-based healthcare organizations.
Staten Island PPS’s Cultural Competency and Health Literacy workstream has provided thousands of hours of training to partners since 2015. We are deeply committed to connecting our partners with the resources they need to begin evaluating organizational culture and practices.
This training will help participants:
Increase awareness of DEI core principles—especially racial equity, foundational concepts such as implicit bias, micro aggressions and internalized oppression, and the differences between personal and institutional experiences of race and racism.
Deepen understanding of the impact of personal identity in leadership impact, and leadership skills such as cultural competency required to advance DEI.
Expand knowledge of organizational practices for advancing DEI, the use of equity protocols to build organizational capacity for DEI, and actions that integrate DEI as a core value for advancing health equity and outcomes.
